School Counselors attend Summer Conference

  JBE School Counselors, Ashley Hawkins and Megan Boyce attended the 2016 Arkansas School Counselor Association & Arkansas Department of Education School Counselor Summer Conference July 18th-20th in Hot Springs, AR. The main theme of the conference was “Connect.”
   Two keynote speakers Dr. Sherene McHenrey and Mr. Judson Laipply presented to School Counselors from all over Arkansas. Dr. McHenrey spoke passionately about equipping counselors to avoid burnout and be more effective on a daily basis. Mr. Judson Laipply has spoken to over 1200 audiences across the globe and has been seen on The Today Show, Ellen, Oprah, GMA, and more. He specializes in change, choice, leadership, and engagement. He is famous for his creation, “The Evolution of Dance.”
   Our School Counselors learned from various trainings such as responsibilities as a mandated reporters, super strengthening your counseling lessons, strengthening your connections, ADE updates, using needs assessments to target your counseling lessons and approaches, the social/emotional connection from a student’s perspective with regards to dyslexia, the counselors role of support in RTI, Google calendar, and much much more.
   Ashley and Megan are so excited to implement the material gained into our school counseling program here at JBE!
